The Whitewater® Nitrogen Reduction Unit operates on the same treatment principle and process as the standard Whitewater DF Unit. The specific difference is the application of the air into the outer mixing tank. The control panel for the Nitrogen Reduction Unit turns the blower off after periods of high water usage in the house-often in the morning after showers and in the evening after dinner. Every family's routine is different, so the control panel can be customized to operate on any schedule. This "off" period creates an anoxic zone in the treatment unit that enables denitrification, and when the blower resumes it again creates an aerobic environment that provides nitrification.
